VAG-Ford Configuration
In September 2005 TSN decided to build a Tiger R-6 with a VAG Audi 1.8 litre 20 valve Turbo engine. At the moment of that decision, TSN was well aware that there was no suitable bellhousing to match this engine to the Ford ‘Type 9’ gearbox. This triggered us to develop a new bellhousing, which matches the widely used ‘Type 9’ gearbox to a considerable range of VAG engines.
It is also known that several German kitcar manufacturers use an adapter plate to match the VAG to a Ford MT-75 gearbox, TSN finds this an adequate but not a charming solution. Of course the MT-75 box is lighter and can cope with fairly high torques and is still relatively cheap. On the other hand, this gearbox is pretty wide considering its integrated bellhousing and it has a mechanical clutch. Moreover, considering the torques produced by turbo or diesel engines, this gearbox can easily be overloaded.
