Clutch and Flywheel

The clutch and flywheel is the second development of TSN. Since it becomes difficult to obtain a suitable flywheel these days, TSN developed a lightweight fully balanced flywheel made of Chromium Molybdenum billet steel, that can accommodate a 228 mm clutch setup as well as a 240 mm clutches. The flywheel comes with starter-ring and new crankshaft bolts with a weight of 4.8 kg.

OPTION 1    228 mm clutch kit for the standard VAG turbo engines

The 228 mm high performance steel pressure cover and drive plate is capable to deal with 350 Nm. The drive plate is organic and fits the T9 drive shaft, it has Silicone-Chrome damper springs with upgraded facings. It is the basic set at an affordable price.

Option 1: Steel pressure plate with organic drive plate 228 mm

OPTION 2    240 mm sporting clutch for the more powerful turbo engines

As mentioned before, the flywheel can also accommodate a lightweight 240 mm pressure cover, this cover however is made of aluminium and can cope with 455 Nm  (with a normal weight vehicle of 1200 kg). The 240 mm drive plate also is organic and is build up similarly as the 228 mm plate. Higher torques can be achieved with cerametallic paddle blade drive plates, however this is a Ralley/Racing drive plate and not recommandable for road use.

The great advantage of this flywheel is, that it can accomodate the 228 mm cover or the 240 mm cover, so here you can benefit from the lower weight of this flywheel and make a good personal choice.

Option 2: Aluminum pressure goup with organic/cerametallic drive plate 240 mm

All drive plates mentioned fit the 23 x 1" Ford Type-9 spline directly. Due to the higher foot pressure in order to operate the uprated clutches, it is almost mandatory to use the hydraulic operating slave cylinder (avoiding broken clutch cables). When you change diameters in the master brake cylinders you can vary in footpressure efficiently. TSN has these master cylinders in stock.
